5 Tips to Jump Start Your Day

Your morning sets the tone for your day. So for you to have the most successful and productive day possible, it’s important you get off to the right start at the start. Here's how:

#1: Wake Up Earlier

  • Get started an hour or two before people need your attention (or an hour before you’d typically prep to be ready to deal with others) to give yourself some personal space.
  • This gives your mind the proper time to wake up and really focus on the day ahead. Goodbye lazy brain.
  • After time, you’ll start to generate discipline and motivation to tackle your day.

#2: Have a Routine

  • Give yourself structure and stick to it.
  • When you have a habitual routine and your morning actions become more efficient and automatic, you can use your mental energy for the more important tasks ahead that require real brainpower.
  • By repeating the same behaviors over and giving yourself the right time you need, you’re giving your brain (and body) time to wake up and get in gear.
  • If you have control of the first portion of your day, your whole day will likely feel in control.  

#3: Get the Energy Going

  • By doing some physical activity (it doesn’t have to be strenuous; try a walk or quick yoga session) in the morning, you’re getting that blood flowing and energy pumping.
  • Research shows morning exercise is best for reducing stress and helping you burn more fat throughout the day.
  • Exercise releases endorphins which have mood-boosting superpowers, so start your day with a dose of good vibes.

#4: Eat a Healthy Breakfast

  • Fuel your body with the proper nutrients that will jump start your metabolism and energy.
  • When you nourish your body right, you’ll be able to stay focused and energized longer.
  • Make sure to hydrate, too, but skip the caffeine until later.

#5: Don’t Read Your Email First Thing

  • If your inbox is a frequent point of stress and annoyance, don’t go straight to it when you wake up to avoid any potentially negative reactions immediately.
  • Wait until you’ve given your brain the time to wake up, process the day ahead, and dive in with a positive attitude. You don’t need an email or the stress of many emails to bring you down.
